Bloomberg News reported earlier this week that Amazon is considering a $15 billion warehouse expansion plan for about 80 new logistics facilities in U.S. cities and rural areas. Bloomberg, citing anonymous sources, said that the company is talking to potential capital partners and that the facilities are expected to be mostly delivery hubs, but some of the properties would also include large fulfillment centers packed with robots. There was no mention of where these sites may be located. This comes at the same time that Microsoft said it is “slowing or pausing” some of its data center construction, including a $1 billion project in Ohio. The tech giant confirmed this week that it is halting early-stage projects on rural land it owns in central Ohio’s Licking County, outside of Columbus, and will reserve two of the three sites for farmland. Microsoft didn’t say what other projects it has slowed outside of Ohio.
