Over the years, ECA has developed one of the most successful Supervisory Training Programs (STP) in the country...over 200 Superintendent Courses since the inception of the program some 30-plus years ago, training over 3,500 local supervisors, tradespeople, and office personnel.
This class meets over seven consecutive Thursdays: January 16, 23 and 30, February 6, 13, 20 and 27, 2025.
Attendance of at least 5 of the classes is required to pass the unit.
Unit #4, "Contract Documents," will provide information about contract documents and construction law to help supervisors recognize the roles and responsibilities of all contracted parties, to develop an understanding of how contract documents can be helpful in solving problems and resolving conflicts, and to develop positive relationships between all parties in the construction process.
Topics will include:
• Introduction to contract documents and construction law
• Creating a positive environment through partnering
• Contractual relationships
• Contract forms and documents
• Managing general conditions
• Good documentation practices
• Changes, Differing site conditions, Time impacts, Negotiation of resolutions

The Life Sciences Public Health Laboratory project consolidates five existing facilities throughout the Capital District of New York into one new building on the Governor W. Averell Harriman State Office Building Campus in Albany, New York. This new facility will be home to NYS Department of Health’s Wadsworth Center, which includes the Division of Environmental Health Sciences, Division of Genetics, Division of Infectious Diseases, and Division of Lab Quality Certification. In addition to the laboratory space needed for the advancement of the Department of Health’s mission, the building will include a central utility plant, a shipping, storage, and material handling facility, and administrative offices.
The anatomy of the planned 655,600-square-foot building will include:
*Shallow spread footing foundations
*Steel braced frame five-story superstructure
*Aluminum and glass façade
*Various roofing systems, including KEE Type and SBS
*Gypsum wallboard partitions and architectural finishes

Get ready for our first-ever March Madness Watch Party!
Come watch the opening games of the Men’s NCAA Basketball Tournament on the BIG screen at the Building Industry Center on March 20. We’ll start things off at noon and enjoy pizza, wings and beverages throughout the day as the first eight games get underway. We’ll have the volume up for whichever game ends up on the main screen, but we’ll be showcasing the other games at the same time on our multiple TVs.
The women’s action doesn’t get started until the next day, but we’ll follow their pre-tourney coverage as well!
Cost is $35 per person, which covers the whole afternoon and includes participation in our Bracket Challenge! Bracket Challenge login information will be sent following Selection Sunday.

This 8-week course covers basic skills necessary to understand construction documents and what to expect when reviewing drawings. This includes architectural, site/civil, and all mechanical trades scopes, the importance of project specifications, and other related items that are part of a complete set of contract documents. Participation is encouraged, and having interactive discussions will be an important part of the course.
The course will meet for eight (8) Tuesdays from March 25 - May 20 (no class April 22). You must attend at least 6 (six) of the classes in order to obtain a Certificate of Completion.
The class will be conducted online via Zoom. Class link will be sent following registration.
The class will use Print Reading for Construction (8th edition) by Walter C. Bown and Daniel P. Dorfmueller. The book is NOT INCLUDED in the registration fee and will need to be purchased by the student. Click here to order the book.
Instructor: James Paolini has over three decades of experience with various types of site and building design, project management, facility condition assessments, peer reviews for both public and private projects, as well as construction administration. His responsibilities consist of all phases of Architectural design from project viability/pre-design through closeout and commissioning.
