In 2023, the New York State legislature passed a law mandating that all contractors bidding on public work to be registered with the New York State Department of Labor (DOL) prior to submitting a bid. Contractors and subcontractors need to register before submitting any new bids or commencing new work on a covered project on or after December 30, 2024. The DOL announced earlier this week that the registration system is up and running. You will need to sign in or create a new account with the department's Management System for Protecting Workers’ Rights (MPWR) as part of the registration process -- which is explained in the registry instructions -- and can be found by clicking here. We recommend that you complete the Contractor Registration application ASAP, as we are told it will take a few weeks for your registration to be processed. Also note that prime contractors will also be required to ensure that any subcontractor working on the project is registered before beginning work. There are similar requirements for certain publicly funded private projects.
