The NYS Board of Elections reminds all employers that if an employee who is a registered voter may, without loss of pay, take time off from work (up to three hours) to vote at any primary, general or special election in NYS (this does not include school district elections, library district elections, fire district elections or special town elections). The employee shall be allowed time off for voting only at the beginning or end of his or her working shift, as the employer may designate, unless otherwise mutually agreed upon. Employees must notify their employer at least two days before the election if they intend on taking time to vote. Employers must post information regarding this.
