The Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration announced yesterday the award of $970 million in grants through the Airport Terminal Program funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to improve terminals at 114 airports across 44 states. This includes $10.6 million for Albany International’s plans to rehabilitate, modify, and improve Terminal A. The project is expected to increase hold room capacity, accommodate up to two new passenger boarding bridges, improve the HVAC and electrical system, and add additional restrooms. Two other New York airports -- Buffalo Niagara International Airport ($4.4m) and Westhampton Beach Francis S. Gabreski Airport ($4.6m) – also received grant funding. The five largest grant awards went to: (1) Ft. Lauderdale, Florida ($50 million); (2) Chicago O’Hare ($40 million); (3) Phoenix, Arizona ($36 million); (4) Washington-Dulles ($35 million); and (5) Los Angeles and San Francisco (both receiving $31 million).
