With the 2024 New York State legislative session getting ready to start in a few weeks, Eastern Contractors Association joined our construction colleagues and others from across the state in asking Governor Kathy Hochul to include additional funding in her Executive Budget for NYSDOT core and local highway capital budgets. We made this same request last year to no avail and are hoping for a positive response in the upcoming budget. In 2022, the Governor initiated a five-year, fully-funded NYSDOT capital program. While the current program provides a strong base, the adopted capital program needs additional funding. We are asking for an additional $400M be added to the 2024-25 budget for core highway construction just to keep funding at a similar level to when the five-year program was initially adopted in 2022. This is what we believe is the minimum amount necessary to slow the rate of decline on our State’s roads and bridges. Click here to read the letter that was recently sent to the Governor.
