Legislation Introduced to Crack Down on Wage Theft and Workplace Safety Violations

House Education and the Workforce Ranking Member Bobby Scott (D-VA) introduced the Workers Protecting Our Wage Earners’ Rights (POWER) Act. This legislation seeks to increase the capacity and resources of the Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division (WHD) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to investigate federal labor law violations related to wage theft, workplace safety, child labor, and other violations. The bill would also expand WHD’s and OSHA’s performance, recruitment and relocation, and retention bonus programs to recruit and retain more inspectors.
