Governor Kathy Hochul announced last week the launch of a new hotline that New Yorkers can use to submit wage theft complaints. The telephone hotline (833-910-4378) is up and running, while an online portal will go live at a later date. The announcement of the new reporting systems was made as part of a press conference where the Governor announced that the state’s Wage Theft Task Force had recovered $3 million in wages stolen during the pandemic. Overall, the task force has recovered over $11 million since its inception. Employers found guilty of wage theft in New York may be convicted of a felony and be liable for stolen wages and penalties.
