The New York State Laborers’ Health and Safety Trust Fund has launched HOPE LIVES, a campaign to raise awareness about the mental health crisis in our industry and offer support to its union members. The construction industry has one of the highest suicide rates of any industry. In 2020, the rate of suicide among workers in general industry was 9.5 per 100,000. In construction, the rate was 45 per 100,000, almost five times higher. Approximately 5,000 construction workers die by suicide each year. As a partner in the Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention (CIASP), the Laborers Health and Safety Fund is committed to reducing the number of suicides in construction and helping LIUNA members get the help they need.
