Company History: Amalgamated Bank’s beginning is deeply rooted in advocacy and social change. The Bank was founded by the Amalgamated Clothing Workers union in 1923 because as immigrant garment workers, primarily women, they couldn’t bank at big commercial banks. Taking their futures into their own hand, they started their own bank, Amalgamated Bank. The Bank continues to push progress today as it fulfills its mission of being America’s socially responsible bank by empowering organizations and individuals to Bank on Impact by advancing positive change through banking.
