National Construction Safety Week kicks off on Monday. An initiative of the Construction Industry Safety Initiative (CISI), the purpose is to "collectively raise the awareness of the construction industry's continuing commitment to eliminating worker injury, and to clearly communicate its dedication to a shared culture of care and concern and the belief that every week must be Safety Week." Although safety is a topic that goes beyond one week, Safety Week is a great opportunity to remind your team about the little things that can keep everyone safe. This year's Safety Week focuses on the power of safe choices -- both small and large -- and their impact on the industry, community, and each other. We recommend that you use each day of the week to cover different aspects of these safe choices. To get started, here are some key topics for discussion with your team during the week. These can be covered in morning team meetings or through special activities and events: • The choices we make-both big and small-that impact actions both on and off the jobsite. • Preventative steps to take on the job to avoid risk or unsafe situations. • Ways you can encourage fellow workers, family members, and friends to ensure they are being safe. • Encourage one another to spread the power of safe choices by sharing your safety story on social media using #SafetyWeek and #MySafetyPledge. We will also be posting about safety all week on our Facebook and Twitter pages. Let's all be safe out there!
