Governor Andrew Cuomo announced his resignation earlier this week, following the release of the Attorney General’s investigation report regarding his alleged sexual harassment. Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul will be sworn in as the new Governor once Cuomo officially steps down in less than two weeks. Hochul will be the state’s 57th Governor and the first woman to hold that office for NY. Earlier in her political career, Hochul served as a member of the Hamburg Town Board and was the county clerk of Erie County. In 2011, she won a special election to fill New York’s 26th congressional district seat and served as its U.S. representative for two years. After leaving Congress, Hochul worked as a government relations specialist and was then selected by Cuomo in 2014 to be his running mate in the 2014 New York gubernatorial election. As Lieutenant Governor, Hochul has chaired New York’s 10 regional economic development councils and has also chaired the Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Abuse and Addiction. She also serves as liaison to New York's federal representatives in Washington, D.C
