The New York Paid Family Leave deductions have increased for 2021. As the paid family leave benefits are funded through employee paycheck deductions, you may want to remind your employees of this increase that will start right after the new year. The contribution rate for the employee has gone up from .270% to .511%. However, with larger contributions, employees will receive higher benefits. For 2021, the maximum length of paid leave is 12 weeks (from 10 weeks in 2020), payable benefit percentage of an employee's average weekly wage is 67% (from 60% in 2020), and a maximum weekly benefit of $971.61 (from $840.70 in 2020). The increase in contributions has been phased in over the past 4 years. New York's Paid Family Leave Act provides employees with the opportunity to take paid, job-protected leave to bond with a newborn child, to care for a sick relative and/or to prepare for active-duty military deployment, among other events.
