Eastern Contractors Association, Inc. Recognizes Sam Greco Jr. ALBANY, NY – Eastern Contractors Association, Inc., recently honored Sam Greco Jr., of East Greenbush, NY, with its Special Recognition Award in honor of his numerous years of service to the construction industry. Greco has worked in the construction industry for more than 50 years and founded his own company, Sam Greco Construction, Co., Inc., in 1977. He later opened a custom millwork division, MMC Millwork, to meet client demands for specialty wood products in their facilities. Starting off as a laborer for Laborers Local 190 right out of high school, Greco gained experience on a variety of projects throughout the area. In the mid-70s, the company he was working for closed its doors after completing a project at the Port of Albany, but he was asked to perform maintenance work at the new facility which led to him starting his own firm. Today, Greco quietly employs over 100 and has built a solid reputation throughout the Capital District as a general contractor. Some projects the company has been involved with include Capital Roots Urban Grow Center, Columbia-Green Community College, Cargill, Albany Medical Center and Wurth USA, along with numerous schools, banks and other facilities. A long-time board member for ECA, Greco served as the association’s President from 2009-2010. Through the years, he’s been involved with various committees, including negotiations and labor management, and he has also served as a Trustee on Fringe Benefit Funds. Greco Construction was named the Northeastern Subcontractors Association Outstanding General Contractor three times and was he was the first contractor to be recognized as an associate member of the American Institute of Architects of Eastern New York (AIAENY). A strong believer in education, Greco earned a degree from the Junior College of Albany (now Sage College), paying for school through his work in construction and with a basketball scholarship. He eventually went back to school to earn a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Sage College in 2011. An outstanding athlete in school, he was MVP of his basketball teams and was also a standout baseball player, which saw him earn a tryout with the New York Yankees and an offer from the San Francisco Giants. He was inducted into the Sage College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016. Through the years, he has supported various scholarship programs, assisting students with their educations at area community colleges. Greco has always remained active in his community and given his time and resources to assist Albany Medical Center, Habitat House and the Altamont Program along with area youth programs. Sam and his wife, Cathy, reside in East Greenbush and have three children – Megan Greco Baron, Sam Greco III, and Amanda Bonner – and nine grandchildren.
